They released their first\u00a0EP,\u00a0Doom\u00a0in 2005, and later that year signed with\u00a0Metal Blade Records. Their influences include bands such as\u00a0Decapitated,\u00a0Hate Eternal,\u00a0Mastodon,\u00a0Nile, and\u00a0The End.\u00a0They have been defined by\u00a0The New York Times\u00a0as &#8220;an Arizona band with a guttural, brute-force sound descended (indirectly) from\u00a0hard-core punk&#8221;\u00a0and &#8220;straightforwardly brutal act&#8221; by\u00a0Rolling Stone\u00a0magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The band has played in several festivals, including\u00a0Download Festival,\u00a0Sounds of the Underground,\u00a0Mayhem Festival\u00a0and\u00a0Wacken Open Air. The current line-up of the band consists of vocalist Jonny Davy, guitarists Al Glassman and Bobby Thompson, bassist Brent Riggs, and drummer Jon Rice, with Davy being the only original member.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"toc\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><a name=\"History\"><\/a>History<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><em><a name=\"Formation_and_Doom_.282003.E2.80.932006.29\"><\/a> Formation and\u00a0Doom\u00a0(2003\u20132006)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Job for a Cowboy was founded in\u00a0Glendale,\u00a0Arizona\u00a0during December 2003\u00a0by vocalist Jonny Davy, guitarists Ravi Bhadriraju and Andrew Arcurio, bassist Chad Staples, and drummer Andy Rysdam.\u00a0In 2004, they created a\u00a0MySpace\u00a0profile, posted songs online, and immediately began to connect with several worldwide fans.\u00a0Later that year, Staples and Rysdam left Job for a Cowboy and were replaced by Brent Riggs and Elliott Sellers respectively as bassist and drummer.Traffic to the band&#8217;s MySpace profile increased exponentially in late 2005 when the band released their first\u00a0EP, entitled\u00a0Doom.\u00a0The EP attracted the attention of Arizona independent label King of the Monsters, who distributed the disc after an initial self-released pressing by the band.<\/p>\n<p>Job for a Cowboy extensively promoted their debut EP, including three performances on the\u00a0Sounds of the Underground\u00a0tour.\u00a0By the end of the year, the band obtained professional management and signed a deal with\u00a0Metal Blade Records,\u00a0who reissued\u00a0Doom\u00a0with a bonus track.\u00a0During the same year (2006), Arcurio left the band, and Bobby Thompson joined the group.\u00a0While Job for a Cowboy was writing material for their first full-length album, Sellers announced that he would be leaving the band to go back to school immediately after recording the album.\u00a0In search of a permanent drummer, the band then posted a bulletin onBlabbermouth.net,\u00a0which was seen by Jon &#8220;The Charn&#8221; Rice. He made a video of himself, posted it on\u00a0YouTube, and sent the link to the band.\u00a0Soon after, Rice was announced as the new drummer.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><a name=\"Genesis_and_Ruination_.282007.E2.80.93present.29\"><\/a> Genesis\u00a0and\u00a0Ruination\u00a0(2007\u2013present)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In March 2007, Job for a Cowboy completed their debut full-length album,\u00a0Genesis.\u00a0The album was recorded at Blue Light Audio Media in\u00a0Phoenix,\u00a0Arizona\u00a0with producer\u00a0Cory Spotts. It was mixed by\u00a0Sabbatguitarist\u00a0Andy Sneap; released on May 15, the album peaked at #54 on the\u00a0Billboard\u00a0200, and sold nearly 13,000\u00a0copies in its first week, which made\u00a0Genesis\u00a0the best-selling heavy metal debut since\u00a0Slipknot&#8217;s 1999\u00a0debut album.\u00a0The album received generally positive reviews, with\u00a0Kerrang!\u00a0magazine saying, &#8220;an album that quite literally obliterates everyone else currently residing within the death and grind scenes&#8221; and &#8220;one of the year&#8217;s most essential metal purchases&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2007, the band performed at the\u00a0Download Festival\u00a0in\u00a0Donington Park, England.\u00a0The group also played at the\u00a0Sounds of the Underground\u00a0festival along with\u00a0Amon Amarth,\u00a0Chimaira,\u00a0Gwar, and\u00a0Shadows Fall.\u00a0In October, Job for a Cowboy co-headlined the 2007 Radio Rebellion Tour, teaming up with\u00a0Behemoth,\u00a0Gojira\u00a0and\u00a0Beneath the Massacre.\u00a0The band featured on the 2008&#8217;s\u00a0Gigantour\u00a0with headlinersMegadeth,\u00a0Children of Bodom,\u00a0In Flames\u00a0and\u00a0High on Fire.\u00a0In addition, they have been confirmed for a number of festivals during 2008, including\u00a0Wacken Open Air\u00a0in Germany\u00a0and a second appearance at England&#8217;s Download Festival.\u00a0Job for a Cowboy have embarked on a U.S. headlining tour in November and December 2008 with supporting acts\u00a0Hate Eternal\u00a0and\u00a0All Shall Perish.\u00a0In late-2008 guitarist Ravi Bhadriraju left Job for a Cowboy to return to school because want to pursue a more rewarding career in the medical field, in his words &#8220;reinvent the pacemaker&#8221;; he was replaced with former\u00a0Despised Icon\u00a0guitarist, Al Glassman.<\/p>\n<p>On May 1, 2009, the band announced that they completed recording their second studio album,\u00a0Ruination, at AudioHammer studios in\u00a0Sanford, Florida\u00a0with producer\u00a0Jason Suecof.\u00a0The album marks the debut of drummer Jon &#8220;the Charn&#8221; Rice, who has actually been with the band since the tour for\u00a0Genesis, and also of guitarist Al Glassman.\u00a0Ruination, was then released on July 7, 2009 worldwide through\u00a0Metal Blade Records.\u00a0Job for a Cowboy took place in the second\u00a0Mayhem Festival, playing on the\u00a0Hot Topic\u00a0stage along with bands such as\u00a0Cannibal Corpse\u00a0and\u00a0Whitechapel.
